Most of the illnesses that affect people are caused by dirt. Cleanliness is very important if the people are to stay healthy. In most cases, the people who have problems with observing neatness is school going children because they do not know that most communicable diseases are caused by unhygienic behaviors. Illnesses such as flu and diarrhea can be minimized if the people observe good standards of hygiene. Some more serious illnesses such as cholera, which are caused by poor hygiene and can lead to death of very many people. This is the reason why tidiness should be emphasized both in school and at home. Although neatness may be taken for granted, it can be used as a way of saving money that could have been used for the hospital.
Charity begins at home and this is the reason why parents have the obligation of showing their children the importance of neatness. Children are known to copy most of the things that their parents or guardians do. This is the reason why the parents and guardians should be like role models to their children by ensuring that they do things that they expect their children to do. Washing hands after visiting the toilet is a virtue that should be passed to the child from the parent. It is important that the parent show the child the importance of this act through doing it every time one visits the toilet.
Other virtues such as washing hands before eating as well as keeping short nails are equally important in the lives of pupils. Short nails are easy to clean and this means that the parent should ensure that his/her child has short nails in order to ensure that the nails do not hold excess dirt. Washing ones hands using disinfectant is important in ensuring that the hands are germs free because using plain water may not necessarily eliminate the germs that are responsible for illnesses. The disinfectants should be available both at home and in school for the children to use.
In addition, posters can be placed at strategic places showing the children the importance of washing ones hands. The best place to place such posters is in the toilets as well as in the dining rooms. These posters will act as reminders for the children to ensure that before they leave the toilet they have washed their hands. Moreover, soaps and disinfectants should be available at these strategic places to ensure that the children are able to use them.
However, pupils should not be reprimanded if they fail to observe high levels of tidiness but they should be made to understand the importance of doing the things that they are encouraged to do. Prevention is better that cure so the money one may use for the treatment of a sick child is higher that what the same person may have used in the prevention of that illness. Many illnesses are preventable and the stakeholders should play their parts in ensuring that such illnesses are eliminated from the face the earth. Parents and guardians should not tire when it comes to reminding their children what needs to be done. It is important to understand that pupils are very forgettable and ignorant and thus they need to be reminded of what to do from time to time. One should not believe that their children are being rude when they forget to do certain things.
